From the Royan campsite The town closest to the coast. You can spend your day at the beach, but there's much more to do!
On the road to Royan, you can make a detour to visit Talmont-sur-Gironde or Saujon where you can take Seaside Train as you walk along La Palmyre Zoo in Les Mathes.
The Cordouan Lighthouse
Our favourite is a visit to Cordouan Lighthouse. There are many lighthouses that can be visited and there are also quite a few lighthouses out at sea. But worldwide There is only one lighthouse standing in the sea and which can be visited.
It is advisable to check the opening times on the lighthouse's website, as they depend entirely on the tides. Arrival at the lighthouse is just before low tide, so the last few hundred metres are walked through knee-deep water. After visiting the lighthouse, the sandbank will be dry and an ideal spot for a picnic. In any case, we had a very pleasant day, as the photos show.
