Cycle paths & Hikes

From the campsite, set off to explore the paths that wind through the heart of the Charente countryside. On foot or by bike, each trail is an invitation to discover: forests, meadows, vineyards and picturesque villages will open up before you.

Let your steps guide you, slow down, and take the time to admire the scenery, listen to the birdsong or the rustling of the wind in the trees. Each pause becomes a suspended moment, a time to reconnect with the essential and savour the calm of nature.

Rear view of a couple walking along a forest road, a long-haired woman and a man carrying backpacks, hiking in nature together with green trees in the background. Concept of tourism, adventure, summer holiday.

These walks offer numerous opportunities to create lasting memories with family or friends: impromptu picnics, encounters with local wildlife, or simple moments of contemplation by a stream or on a promontory with a unique panorama.

Here, hiking transcends mere physical exercise; it's a true journey at the rhythm of time and nature, where every turn reveals new beauty and every step brings you closer to serenity.

Here are some suggested hikes:

After dinner (3.75km or 5.0km)

A beautiful walk, on tarmac roads and achievable for everyone. The short version takes around 45 minutes and the long version a good hour of leisurely walking.

Hot air balloon 33 (5.8km or 7.5km)

The first part of the journey to the hamlet of «Lampiat» is partially along the D270. Then back through the forest and heathland via the hamlets of «Ricot» and «Chevroux». This walk will take you about an hour.

South through the vines (4.25km or 7.25km)

You will begin the journey between vines and meadows. Then through a forest path back to «Favorit» where you can choose to extend your walk by Le Gât or, if fatigue sets in, return to relax at the campsite.

The duration varies from a little over an hour to an hour and a half.

La Papinelle (10.6km)

Along peaceful paths and roads, those who wish can follow the «La Papinelle» route, which is about ten kilometres long.

Weeping willow casting shade in Pombonne park

Saint Georges and La Sauzette (15km)

As you leave the campsite on your left, after about 5km, you will reach the old Saint Georges quarry, which you can visit every day in summer and on certain days outside of the season. From its platform, you will have a pretty view of the quarry.
The terrain is quite varied (meadows, forests, heathland, vineyards).

Ancient Path of Charlemagne (24km)

For the more experienced, we have adapted one of the cycling circuits for hikers. This walk goes through the forest and heathland.

l'Ecurie (2.9km)

A pleasant stroll to warm you up for upcoming walks, or for your digestion after a meal.

Jogging track (5.0km)

More and more of our visitors enjoy jogging. You can discover a 5km route along quiet, tarmacked roads.

Cycling tours

Intermarché, Montguyon

To get to Intermarché by bike, we suggest a route that's a little longer than by car but quieter. You'll go via the Narolles stables, Cottières, and then Montguyon.

A short warm-up (12km)

This bike ride is 12km, going via Le Grand Pineau and Le Fouilloux.
After approximately 5 km, you will be able to visit the old «Saint Georges» quarry.

Montguyon and The Green Way (32km)

A pretty cycle path created on an old railway line that you can follow for 7km. Return via small roads and paths through the woods.

You will have the opportunity to quench your thirst on a terrace in Montguyon and/or after 27 km at Lac Beau Vallon. Benches along the Voie Verte will beckon you to stop for a break or a picnic.

Old Charlemagne Way (20.6km)

The old Charlemagne path was closed during the construction of the new high-speed train line. A viaduct was built over this road, and since 2016 we have been offering a cycle ride that follows this old path for 6 kilometres.
After 5.5km you will pass the megalithic tomb «Pierre Folle». Then you will find two passages between the D158 and the D259E1, and then between the D259E1 and the D910Bis to arrive on the old Charlemagne path.

Guizengeard Quarries (36.5 km)

From 1972 to 2013, the Guizengeard quarries were a site for the extraction of clay and kaolin. They also bear traces of older human occupations. Since their closure, nature has reclaimed the land.

In summer, the European Bee-eater (a species of bird belonging to the order Coraciiformes and the family Meropidae) can be seen.
You can go for a walk, take a short break or perhaps have a picnic.

A lap of the circuit (23km)

7km from the campsite, you'll find the «Pôle Mécanique de Haute-Saintonge» circuit. During your bike ride, you can enjoy a meal at «Le Bistrot» (open Thursday to Monday lunchtime).

Cycling in Clérac (27km)

Small roads and paths to the Clérac picnic area or the terrace of the «Les Lacs Bleus» hotel and return via the Voie Verte and Montguyon.

The Green Route (40 km)

The Voie Verte is a cycle path laid out on an old railway line. The path is practically flat and therefore ideal for rollerblading, if you fancy it.

The Voie Verte runs from Clérac to Barbezieux in Charente. The route is largely shaded. You can stop to visit the old medieval fortress of Montguyon, the Romanesque church of St Martin d’Ary, the Magdeleine Castle in Chevanceaux, the abbatial church of Baignes Ste Ragonde, as well as Barbezieux Castle, among others...

Saint Martin de Coux by bike (28km)

This walk goes along small tarmacked roads. You will find plenty of places to visit and to have a picnic.
