Brantôme, the Green Venice of the Périgord
A small medieval town with its ancestral abbey, built at the foot of a cliff on an island formed by the Dronne river… that’s how you’d define Brantôme. It’s the only town in the Dordogne whose boundaries are defined by the perimeter of an island.
You absolutely must explore the troglodyte remains of the monastery, visit the abbey church with its cloister gallery, the 11th-century bell tower, and don't forget to make your way to the heart of the island via the Monk's Garden.

You may have already guessed, you will begin the day by heading towards the town of Bergerac. If we suggest you get up early, it's because the journey takes 1 hour and 15 minutes.
The town of Bergerac is classified City of Art and History. It boasts a rich architectural heritage. Of course, you won’t have time to see everything in a single day. That’s why we’re here to guide you, so you don’t miss out on the must-see sights!

Practical information
Several car parks are located in the heart of the city. You can also park outside the city if you wish to avoid paying for parking.
Many buses pass by regularly.
To start your day, we suggest you go to the Old Bergerac. As you wander through the narrow streets, you’ll enjoy the small shops from local craftspeople.
Now’s the time to pick up a lovely souvenir from this town. Its architecture and half-timbered houses bear witness to its long history.
As you round a small square, you’ll see the statue of Cyrano de Bergerac stands before you. A photo is a must to capture your visit to this charming little town.
Then towards the charming Myrpe Square. You’ll be charmed by its authenticity. It perfectly captures the spirit of Bergerac.

To round off the morning in style, head to Quai Cyrano
This is where the Tourist Information Office is located. As well as finding plenty of information about the town, you can also discover the «Wine House».
The South-West region produces high-quality wines with distinctive flavours. As any connoisseur will tell you, Bordeaux wines are unrivalled. Clearly, No visit to Bergerac is complete without a tasting!
This space offers you the opportunity to taste local wines, with expert advice. If you like a wine, head to the wine bar to order a glass. (In moderation, of course!)
Enjoy it with a cheese and charcuterie board on the terrace offering panoramic views of the Dordogne.
During your stay, don't miss the the region's vineyards. The reputation of the local wines is well established. Many estates welcome visitors for unique tours. The Bergerac hills will hold no more secrets for you.

A moment of calm is assured in the city centre.
What is Le Caudeau? It's a 38-kilometre-long stream. Rest assured, the walk we're suggesting doesn't follow the entire stream. You'll cover 6 kilometres along its banks. A walk in a unique setting.
The Green Way Distance: 6km Difficulty: easy
During heatwaves, you will appreciate this little walk under the coolness of the trees. The departure is from the park of Pombonne. Head into the park to reach the paths along the Caudeau.
As you stroll along, you'll no longer feel like you're in the heart of Bergerac. The sound of engines fades away; it's as if you're in the middle of nowhere.
You will cross wooden footbridges to get from one side of the stream to the other. A timeless walk that you will enjoy. After such a day, it's time to head back to your campsite.
