It's time to leave for a day of discoveries between Saintes and Jonzac. Pack your things and let's go. 1 hour and 20 minutes by car from your campsite, La Motte is located at the beautiful town of Saintes. Once there, you will be able to do everything on foot If you appreciate walking.
The town of Saintes
We'll first look at thethe Gallo-Roman amphitheatre of Saintes. Built between 14 and 45 AD, this amphitheatre could accommodate thousands of people for all sorts of shows, from gladiator fights to animal hunts. Still in good condition today, you can visit it.

After this visit, we propose that you continue with The Abbey of the Ladies of Saintes. Located in the heart of the musical city, this abbey was once for women. They lived there in the 11th century. You can admire its famous bell tower and the story it tells, as it now houses the town's cultural centre.
Take a tour of the Music City. It features magnificent architecture, a carousel, as well as artists and events all summer long. While you're in the area, go and have a look around the Saintes Old Town. To do this, head to Saint-Eutrope Basilica, just a 20-minute walk away.
In the historic centre, you can admire this basilica, as well as houses dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. You will also find on-site things to keep you Restore for lunch. For a stopover, we suggest the restaurant The Cellar Goes to the Table, its unique daily menu guarantees fresh, local produce. Alternatively, not far away, you can choose the Crêperie Victor Hugo for homemade crêpes.

Discover Jonzac
Let's begin with Les Antilles de Jonzac aquatic centre Your fun zone awaits you for activities with family or friends.
Take advantage of Lagoon with artificial waves, its indoor and outdoor pools, its waterfall, its multiple slides and its water play area. In the summer, come and cool off for an afternoon. There's something for everyone, whether you want to relax and unwind or have fun.
You will also find a relaxation area on site with a counter-current pool, solarium, sauna, steam room… and a sauna park.
Le parc aquatique est Open all year, but some pools are closed for cleaning on specific dates, so please feel free to check their opening days on their website.

La Town of Jonzac is also nice to visit. You can, for example, see the Cluzelet Windmill there. This windmill is situated on a high point, so it offers a magnificent View of the city. It can be visited, you can find the opening times and days at the tourist information office.
This mill goes hand in hand with the Chez Bret's watermill which is located right next door. You'll be able to discover how millers made flour and walnut oil, as well as all the gears used and how the mills worked.
If you have some time before heading back, you can take a stroll around the town of Jonzac. Wander through its little streets and discover all the charm of this small commune.
